Cold Winters Night

Been a while I know, but I did manage to get out for a run on Tuesday night. I should imagine the temperature outside must have been about -3'c and ice still heavily visible on the pavements. Only a 40min run tonight incorporating interval training.
I started of with a 5 min warm up pace, no heart monitor used today, then into normal pace approx 145 beats per min, avoiding most of the ice as best as possible, this  I did for 15 Min's. Then 10 Min's fast pace, normally heart rate approx 165 beats per min, then a 10 min cool down. Nearly went over on the ice but managed to stay on my feet all the way round. 7.35km run at an average pace of 5min31sec per km.
Unfortunately this will be my last blog entry for at least a month as I have just undergone some minor surgery and  I'm unable to do any training for that period, not happy as my first marathon is on the 3rd April 2011, which will put me behind, especially as I was up to 2hr 40mins on my long runs, approx 28kms,but there's not much I can do about that now.
Later everyone and will be back in the New Year. Happy Christmas to all
Steve

Fartlekking Today

Hi all. What a week it's been, weather and all. I don't know about you but I wasn't going to venture out there and try and run, so it was of to the gym and a session on the Tread Mill. I ran for 45mins with a 5min warm up at a slow pace. No heart monitor here just pace. After the warm up a steady pace 7mph for 10mins, then a 1min sprint then a jog at 6mph for 2min30secs then normal pace was resumed for 2min30sec. This I repeated 5 times and finished at my normal pace. I decided to increase my time to 50mins and managed to run 6miles(10k).
Once completed a light session on the weights, concentrating on the upper body chest, arms and back, finishing of some core work. A good session and well needed as I haven't been able to train as much as I would have liked.
One thing I am experiencing at the moment is like a pressure sore on the base of my big toes around where I'm building up some hard skin. Would be great if anyone that does read this have some advice.
Lastly, I had a session of acupuncture today to alleviate a reoccurring lower back pain where my muscles spasm. Can I just say, How deep did he push them needles in my back, I swear he hit bone at one point. I just hope after all this, it solves the problem.
Well, of now and planning my next run, hopefully once the snow melts.
Later everyone.....

Easy Run

Easy run today as just getting over a cold and lower back muscle spasms. 7km run in 39mins. First 5mins warm up, HR 130, then 30mins HR approx 145. I threw in 5 sets of 100m sprints in intervals of 5mins and last a 5 min cool down. Felt pretty good afterwards, but how cold was it out there? Brrrrrr. Got to be done though.
If anyone feels the need to help in sponsorship towards my quest, please feel free to go to my charity page.

The question is Why?

Hi, I'm Steve, who for some unknown reason has taken it upon himself to try and run five Marathons next year, 2011. So far I have managed to enter two, with a third pending. Why? am I doing this, well hopefully to raise a considerable amount of cash for my chosen charity, Help for Heroes. I have run marathons before, the last, nine years ago. My mid life crisis has hit me and I have taken this challenge up by the horns. I have been training via a programme from Adidas MI Coach. I'm up to running approx 2hr 30mins, distances of approx 28kms. I try and mix my training with some hill work on tread mills, interval training and a slow run prior to my weekly long run. Motivation is what I need at the moment because I can tell you when it's cold and dark and you have just done a twelve hour shift the last thing you want to do is go out for a run! At the moment I have the first cold of the winter season which is slowing me down, especially as my first marathon is April 3rd 2011, the Sussex Marathon. I managed to do a 15km charity run last week in Richmond Park, in a respectable time of 1hr 08min, 61st out of 300. Not bad for my standards. It shows the training must be paying of.
Well, that's about it for time being. I will update my blog and let you know how the training is panning out.
